Meet Our Doctors

Optometrist:
Dr. Darren Hatchard B.Sc., O.D.

Dr. Darren Hatchard B.Sc., O.D. was born in Red Deer, Alberta and raised in Singapore . After completing his undergraduate degree in Vision Science and Forensic Chemistry at the University of Central Oklahoma, he completed his Doctor of Optometry at Pacific University in Oregon . For eighteen years, he practiced full scope Optometry with treatment and management of ocular disease in the Cayman Islands prior to the legislation to do so in Canada.

Dr. Hatchard has also opened British Columbia’s first exclusive dry eye treatment center in Kelowna . In his time spent away from the office, he enjoys skiing, hiking, sailing and spending time with his family.

Optometrist:
Dr. Ignacio Salvati, M.D. (Argentina)

Dr. Ignacio Salvati Optometrist, M.D. ( Argentina ) was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina . After completing his Medical Degree at the University of Buenos Aires , he further continued his education through specializing in Ophthalmology at Churruca Visca Hospital . He was the recipient of a Literary Award at the Argentine Society of Ophthalmology Congress in 2007 . In his time away from the office, Dr. Salvati enjoys playing soccer, skiing, and spending time with his family.

Optometrist:
Dr. Brian Sklapsky A.B., O.D.

Dr. Brian Sklapsky A.B., O.D. was born and raised in Martensville, Saskatchewan. He completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Princeton University with also playing varsity hockey. He played one year of hockey professionally in Europe before completing his Doctor of Optometry from Michigan College of Optometry. He enjoys Primary Care Optometry with an interest in scleral lenses and sports vision.

Optometrist:
Dr. Hayley Valgardson B.Sc., O.D.

Dr. Hayley Valgardson B.Sc., O.D. was born and raised in Kelowna, British Columbia. After graduating top in her Kinesiology program at Wilfrid Laurier University, she completed her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the University of Waterloo, graduating with honors.

She was the recipient of the Eschenbach Low Vision Award in recognition of her aptitude and passion for helping patients with visual impairments. In her time away from the office she enjoys camping and playing a variety of sports.

Optometrist:
Dr. Mark Csandl OD, BSc

I graduated with distinction from Pacific University, College of Optometry (located just outside of Portland, OR) after completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences and a Master of Science degree in therapeutics, drug development, and human toxicology at Queen’s University (Kingston, ON). During my externship year, I routinely managed glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, pre and post-operative cataract/corneal procedures, and several other ocular health conditions at the Mann-Grandstaff Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Spokane, WA, and a Medical Eye Care center in Mesa, AZ.

I was raised in Kelowna and you can often find me enjoying the complete Okanagan lifestyle skiing, hiking, at the beach, or dining at one of our excellent restaurants. Community is important to me and I am grateful to be back home.

As a Therapeutic Qualified registrant with the College of Optometrists of BC, I practice full scope Optometry with an interest in ocular disease and contact lenses. I welcome new patients and their families and look forward to meeting you so that I can best serve your visual and ocular health needs.

Optometrist:
Dr. Austin Farrell B.Sc., OD

Dr. Austin Farrell B.Sc., OD was born and raised in the Maritimes, splitting time between Nova Scotia and New-Brunswick. He completed his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at St.FX University before completing his Doctor of Optometry degree from Michigan College of Optometry. 

Outside of the office you'll find him at the Okanagan golf course or with his family walking his golden retriever. 

University of WaterlooGlenmore Optometry officially partnered with the University of Waterloo to serve as a training facility for aspiring Optometrists in 2024. Since that time we have had the immense pleasure of meeting and supporting a number of brilliant future Optometrists. 

 

This semester we are proud to introduce:

Sigurdson RaeRae Sigurdson

Originally from Oakbank, Manitoba, Rae is a fourth-year optometry student at the University of Waterloo. With a strong connection to the prairies, Rae brings a warm, patient-centered approach to eye care. She is very excited to be joining our clinic this Fall!

Rae began her academic journey in Alberta, where she played college volleyball for the Lakeland College Rustlers and earned a Business Administration diploma in 2019. She later completed her Bachelor of Science with Distinction through Athabasca University before pursuing her Doctor of Optometry degree.

Rae is especially passionate about the connection between ocular and systemic health, and values the important role optometrists play within a patient’s overall healthcare team.

Outside the clinic, Rae enjoys reading, running, golfing and playing board games with her fiancé, Stephen.
